Northwestern University Shelter raised after 3 shots, one fatal, at Clark Street Beach

 Northwestern University was on the block for more than an hour Wednesday after a shooting killed a man and injured two teens on Evanston Beach.

The university sent out a campus-wide alert after the shooting at Clark Street Beach, just south of the Evanston campus.

Northwestern officials said the suspects ran north toward campus on Sheridan Road. Sheridan was closed from Davis to Clark while the police investigated.

Evanston police said three people were wounded, one of them on the beach. Police said the victims were not Northwestern University students.

A man believed to be 18 or 19 years old was declared dead at the scene. Two other victims, aged 15, were injured. Police said one of the teens was in a critical condition while the other sustained minor injuries.

No one is currently in custody. Police said the shooting was not a random act.

People on the beach said they heard gunfire.

It is not yet clear the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting, although police said it did not appear to have anything to do with the university.
